Get to Know Me (Jenna Doolittle) & my 3 Favorite Blog Posts

Wow! We have a lot of new subscribers. Hello! Welcome!

We also have a lot of you who have been with us for awhile now, THANK YOU!

It occurred to me, a lot of you don’t really know who the heck I am. I am just some random person who writes a newsletter so I thought I’d take the time today to tell you a little bit about myself and share with you my 3 favorite past blog posts so you can play a little catch up in case you missed them.

A BIT ABOUT ME….I promise I tried to keep this fun!

I’m Jenna Doolittle, but I joke that I’m a Doolittle who does a lot 🤪 Find me @thatdoolittle

I love helping actors get unstuck, stop stressing and start booking!

I’m a working actor myself, though I’ve shared very candidly in the newsletter that I’ve been pulling back from my own career and focusing on other things like creating this incredible membership I’m launching for you in May,  starting a non-acting podcast with my childhood best friend – annnnd trying to start a family, send good juju!

I’m a career coach for actors – meaning I teach actors all the things they didn’t teach us in school. Ya know like how to actually get a job, write emails to CDs and not feel like a weirdo and how to get a great rep or work with the one you have, etc.! And of course, I create the Actors Rise Newsletter with the help of my incredible team member Nathalia Coppa!

💫 I am also the Chair of the Next Gen Performers Committee at SAG-AFTRA. I love volunteering for the union. There’s always so much more to learn and I’m honored to get to serve actors in such an exciting way. Make sure to follow NGP on IG @nextgenperformers. There are NGP locals in different markets too so always ways to get involved!

Random (Fun?) Facts about me…. (check out my IG post here with pictures)

🌊Originally from RI – LOVE my state and am obsessed with seafood cause of it, but my one true love is lobster!

✨I’m an only child and started acting cause I wanted to be like my big cousins who were doing it. Honestly too, there was some stuff going on at home and acting was a great escape for me. I was able to play and be messy and didn’t have to have it all together. Can you relate?! I feel like so many actors can.

My first real play was “Really Rosie” where I played a kid and then I went on to eventually play Rosie and Rosie’s mom in later productions at my community theatre. One of the pics in the IG scroll is of me as Rosie. Lots of memories with this show!

🌃Lived in NYC for 6 years and produced an off-Bway play called ‘Piggy Nation, The Musical’ that taught kids to avoid “piggy” behavior 💕🐷 I LOVED living in NYC.
I waited tables all 6 years of living in NYC at so many different places, but my fav place I worked was at Brother Jimmys cause it was basically like a party all the time and I made some of my best friends ever. Sadly it just closed its doors for good, but I kept the best part, which was the friendships! #RIPBROJS

🌴Followed my now husband to LA (don’t judge). We’ve known each other since 7th grade (judge). He’s a screenwriter & headshot photographer.  Check out the wedding and silly older pic from us on IG.

🎬Worked in commercial casting for a min in LA (kinda hated it! 🤷‍♀️) But had fun with my boss at the time.

🔪I killed Evan Peters on American Horror Story. See pic on IG if you can find me

😻 We have a tuxedo cat named BUG that I’m pretty crazy about. He lives up to his name as he’s a lovebug and just a bug bug. Poor BUG has been super sick lately though and it’s been uber stressful. Send good vibes!

📰I’ve been writing the Actors Rise newsletter since March 2020 cause I wanted to find a way to help actors out during the craziness.  The newsletter ended up being featured in THE NEW YORK TIMES and I was on a short list next to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Paula Vogel, which was just mind bogglingly cool. If you wanna hear more about the newsletter creation, check out this mini doc made by the awesome Megan Mckenzie Media. 🤯💕

That’s all about me. Let me know in the comments if we have anything in common! Love to hear from you!

3 Favorite Blog Posts from Past Newsletters

  • Gratitude This title is lame, but in it I talk about ways in which I wasn’t feeling very grateful and how I pushed through.
  • Creating Good Actor Habits I’m still learning to create good habits in my life, work and art, but I’ve realized that habit make a HUGE difference in my happiness. This one resonated with a lot of people.

There are a ton more blogs on the website. Honestly it was difficult for me to choose which ones to share here.

For super practical tips: Do’s and Don’ts of Picking a Good Scene for a Workshop & Creating Community In Your Acting Class are ones you can put into practice immediately.

Let me know which ones were the most helpful to you or what you would like to hear more about in future newsletters!  Also, I LOVE a comment here on the actual blog posts if you feel so inclined.

Hope you all had a lovely Passover and/or Easter celebration (I ate wayyyy too much!) and are excited and ready to tackle the week. And if you’re not, that’s OK too. Just take it one day at a time.
