Tips on Traveling as an Actor

Thinking of going on a trip some time soon? Here are some of my tips for traveling as an actor!

Book Out

Let your reps know where you’re going and your dates two weeks ahead of time. Also, let them know you can still self-tape (if you wanna – you’re absolutely allowed to NOT.).

  • Send a reminder email the day before you leave saying you’re going and reminding them of the dates, but that you can still self-tape.
  • Send another email once you’ve returned saying you’re back *and feel free to share a fun pic or story about your vaca. It’s helpful for reps to get to know you as a person and you can include them in your fun, maybe even grab them a small gift while there, if you feel inclined*

Packing list

A small ring light, your iPhone, a tiny iPhone stand, and if you wanna be fancy, some duck tape and a blue sheet as your backdrop.

One thing to consider is also adding in one very flexible audition outfit. Only you know your casting, but if you’re constantly going out for professional types, maybe add in a blazer or if you are always the mom type, make sure you’re not just bringing your bathing suit. You get it.

Pro tip

If you have an iPad, bring that for your sides and reading books. *I love the Libby app if you’re not already using it for books* OR if you’re at a hotel, they will often print things for you.
